BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A local, small business owner is taking steps to make sure nobody goes hungry on Burlington’s Church Street.
Sarah Howley is the owner of Only Canoli, a pop-up bakery cart serving the popular, Italian pastry in and around Burlington. Her cart is typically stationed on Church Street.
Howley says after a slow summer she decided to use her food skills for good. After receiving donations through social media, she used the funds this past week to make free, bagged lunches for anyone who needed one.
Howley says she wants to ensure anyone who’s struggling is taken care of. “Everything that’s going on right now, there’s a lot of hungry people. It was kind of a realization of that’s why we have this spot. This is a good way for me to kind of get out here, on my day off, and do something for our community,” she said.
She made more than 50 bagged lunches, filled with a sandwich, chips, candy bar, and a drink. She says they were gone within about an hour.
Howley plans to continue doing this every Wednesday for as long as she can.
