FKA Twigs cared more about Grammys when she was younger – Music-News.com

FKA Twigs cared more about being recognised at the Grammys earlier in her career.
The British singer-songwriter, real name Tahliah Barnett, explained to The Hollywood Reporter that she doesn’t look at streaming figures or awards to measure her success in the music industry.
When asked if the Grammys matter to her, she replied, “When I was younger. But less so now. I have never been in this for awards… I’ve always felt very confident in my cultural impact more than what numbers look like on Spotify or how many trophies I have in my recording studio. I’ve consciously and actively done things so that I can be on the right side of myself as an artist.”
However, she noted, “But in the same breath, I have been releasing music for two decades, and it would mean something to be recognised by other musicians and people who care a lot about music.”
The Cellophone singer acknowledged that Grammys voters may struggle to fit her hard-to-define music into specific categories.
“My place isn’t anywhere, to be honest,” she stated. “I will be an artist that always changes styles to the glee and frustration of my fans.”
Twigs was previously nominated for the Grammy for Best Music Video in 2020 for Cellophane.
She was recently up for the prestigious Mercury Prize, which recognises the best British or Irish album of the past 12 months, for her latest record Eusexua, but she lost out to Sam Fender earlier this month.
