Students at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Howard Center for Investigative Journalism won the student journalism category in the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing’s annual Best in Businesswards. Joining the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and other newsrooms, Cronkite students are the contest’s only collegiate honorees.
The winning project, Lithium Liabilities, explores the consequences of lithium mining—namely, using billions of gallons of water from stretched supplies. Judges lauded the work, investigated by 15 students in the Howard Center, for its “exceptional reporting, topped with compelling storytelling that delivered on multiple platforms to strike immediate impact.”
