CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — North Padre Island has experienced economic growth in the past years, attracting several new businesses.
Earlier this week, Brewster Street announced they will be the newest restaurant to join the the island community.
Their third location will be at the site of the former Boathouse Bar and Grill at Whitecap and Leeward.
Marketing Director of Brewster Street Marisol Ramirez said the owners, the Durrill family have had their sight on the island for a long time.
“We’ve always talked about the natural growth at Brewster Street and what that would look like,” Ramirez said. “And they have been part of the Island community since the 80’s so it felt like a natural step for them to continue that growth on that Island.”
In the past year, five new restaurants opened on North Padre Island. Ramirez said they’re excited to be part of that growth and contribute to the Island’s thriving community.
“Being part of the growth on the Island I think is such an exciting thing for us, it’s a natural time for us. We’ve been there for a long time though, we haven’t had a presence on the Island but we’ve always been involved in that community,” Ramirez said. “So being able to be part of that growth today and see how far we go and be part of the community is really important to us.”
Ridley’s opened their doors to the community in January. Manager Sandra Leal said although they just opened, they have quickly become a local favorite.
“We’re really excited for more businesses to be opening and like for more things to be available to the community out here. And so we’re glad to be a part of that as well,” Leal said.
Leal said she’s amazed by the Island’s growth and is excited to see even more developments in the future.
“I’ve only been here for about three years and it’s really cool to see how much it has grown in just that time and it’s really exciting to see how much it’s growing in the future as well,” Leal said.
With two successful locations already, Ramirez sad the third will truly reflect the spirit of the island community.
“So the Island is going to become it’s own identity. We’re not sure what that’s going to be. I think part of that is letting the Island decide what it wants it to be, right? We are there for the community and letting the community have a voice,” Ramirez said.
