Tempe firetrucks, ambulances upgrade to new CPR technology – KJZZ

All firetrucks and ambulances from Tempe Fire Medical Rescue are now carrying new CPR technology to help save lives in emergencies.
The technology is the LUCAS automated chest compression device, which can alleviate the fatigue associated with manual CPR.
Use of the device increases a person’s chance at survival by providing consistent CPR compressions and maintaining circulation as first responders move a patient.
Deputy Chief Kevin Bailey Jr. says time matters in a cardiac arrest situation and that the device provides “overall better health outcomes.”
The city says it is the first fire department in metro Phoenix to fully equip its vehicles with the devices.
