Block's Bagels to 'pause operations indefinitely' after nearly 60 years in business – 10TV

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An east Columbus deli announced Sunday that it is “pausing operations indefinitely” after nearly 60 years in business after its founder passed away last month.
Block’s Bagels, located at 6115 McNaughten Rd., posted on its Facebook page that the decision came as the family grieves the loss of Harold “Hal” Block and recognizes that no other Block family members are actively involved in the business.
They also added that the lease ends soon, so “this was a natural moment for transition.”
Hal and Audrey Block founded Block’s Hot Bagels after moving to Columbus from New York City, looking to bring a piece of their hometown with them.
The company said that while the deli will close, “the legacy of Block’s Hot Bagels—its commitment to quality, tradition, and bringing people together—will live on in the Columbus community.”
They wrote in the Facebook post that the family remains hopeful and looks forward to exploring ways to carry forward Hal, Audrey and their son Steven’s passion for baking kosher bagels and fostering connection.
“This is not goodbye, but an opportunity to explore how Block’s can continue to serve Columbus in the future,” they said.
Block’s Bagels’ last day will be Sunday, March 2.
