My Facebook use has dwindled considerably in recent years, perhaps from social media burnout (mostly from the intrusive ads and targeted content of people I don’t know at all). I haven’t withdrawn from it entirely, though, mostly because it helps maintain some connection with people I care about from my high school days.
Having grown up in southwest Little Rock, I spent many a Friday or Saturday night hanging out on Geyer Springs Road, back before cellphones when “cruising” was part of how teenagers existed in community.
The other day, I happened to catch someone’s post of a 1983 community parade on Geyer Springs Road, a heavily trafficked commercial route that’s been five lanes for decades. In the video, the parade of marching bands, high school drill teams and other entries moved down the center lane and one other lane.
